There are about 300 teams in the Hawthorn Basketball Association competitions, comprising some 2,400 registered players. Canterbury Cougars is the largest club in the HBA, with 61 teams and a reputation for being extremely well administered.

  • Cougars has enough teams in each age division to fit your skill level
  • Cougars objective with players is to:
    • Teach them respect for team mates, the coach, refs and their opposition;
    • Very importantly, build the player’s self esteem;
    • Teach basketball skills, sportsmanship and to operate in a team environment;
    • Have fun.
  • Cougars are non-profit, being run by volunteers, thereby keeping your costs low.
  • Cougars provide players with an opportunity to become a coach, which teaches organisation, leadership and strategic thinking. Junior coaches are also paid up to $200 per season and the coaching looks great on the resume.

Canterbury Cougars is a community basketball club, that offers players a game of basketball with a dedicated coach in a positive learning environment.
