Camberwell High School is a coeducational, state government, secondary school for students in Years 7 to 12. The school has a capped enrolment of 1200 students, and the demand for placement regularly exceeds places available. Preference is given to applicants within the school’s designated local area. The local area is defined as the closest government high school to a student’s home.

Camberwell High School opened in 1941 with an enrolment of 350 girls and boys. Today there are 1200 students who continue to thrive in a school community which promotes contemporary learning and takes pride in its long history and rich traditions.

The school’s motto Disco Consulere Aliis (Learning to be considerate of others) underpins all that they do. Combined with the school values of achievement, creativity, respect and responsibility, the school focuses on developing learners who excel, have high expectations of themselves in all they do and are ready to make an impact within the global community as active and engaged citizens.

Teachers work collaboratively to ensure that they provide opportunities for students as individuals to explore ideas in depth, learn in different ways and at different levels. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and track their own growth. Through collaboration and negotiation with teachers and their peers, they explore ideas, build understanding and develop skills.

Camberwell High School’s instrumental music program features four concert bands, four stage bands, three string ensembles and a choir. Music is well regarded and valued highly by the school community, and Camberwell High School is well recognised in the wider community as an excellent school for music.

Camberwell High School provides many opportunities for overseas travel through Language studies (France and China), Classics and Art tours, Music tours and the World Challenge Expedition experience.
